Propositions assemble projects dealing with contemporary issues through photography and video. Contemporary art, as most intellectual endeavors today, has its own narratives, languages and contradictions. These projects search for visual structures that raise formal and content questions and pull them back to the social and political.
Elegies of Manumission collects projects that, through portraiture, deal with social and political issues. Since the advent of modernity, the legitimacy of portraiture has been questioned and in extreme conflict. With these controversies in mind, the work would be better defined as anti-portraiture as it is not individuality but the embodiment of ideas what is being represented.
